Colossus of Memnon
Stuart Franklin - „Colossus of Memnon“, signed
original print.
The Memnon Colossi, two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, stand as monumental sentinels of the Theban Necropolis.
In antiquity, the northern colossus became celebrated as the „singing statue“ - a phenomenon where temperature shifts within the fractured stone at sunrise produced a resonant, ringing sound, mythologically interpreted as the morning greeting of Memnon, son of Eos, the dawn.
